Digital printing is relatively new in the history of printing services. Its primary distinguishing factor from other types of printing is that the prints are made directly from electronic files. The digital artworks are created by a computer and then printed directly to the material. Digital printing eliminates the hustles of manually setting up a lot of things, as required in the traditional forms of printing. As a result, digital printing is currently widespread and loved for its reliability and quality over offset printing. Offset printing is one of the most popular traditional printing methods.

The key difference between offset printing and digital printing is the way the ink gets to the surface of the material to be printed on. In offset printing, the artwork has to be engraved onto metal plates, then transferred to a rubber blanket with ink and finally on to the material to be printed. Digital printing, on the other hand, uses electrostatic drums. The artwork to be printed is in digital form and is transferred directly to the material. Below are reasons why digital printing is a preferred method.

Eco-friendly and cost-effective

Printing directly to the surface dramatically reduces the materials and chemicals that would have otherwise been required in conventional printing methods. These may include metal plates and extra ink to perform pre-press procedures. Money used to buy extra resources required by other forms of printing services, such as metal plates and chemicals, is saved. Additionally, it does not cost much to do the initial setup. As long as you have a working printer and power, you are good to go.

Quality and Variety

Digital printing offers consistency in printing over many other types of printing. The colours are transferred perfectly to the surface and the resulting quality is simply impressive. While using digital printers to print a batch of brochures or flyers, all of them will be identical. With these printers, especially ones with UV inks, it is possible to print on a variety of substrates. UV ink stability means that they maintain the excellent colour fastness when they are used outside. This allows a wide range of things to be printed. Generally, as long as it can fit in a printer, then it can be printed. This includes things like glass, wood, styrene and FRP

With digital printers, it is rare that work is rejected due to short notice. As long as the electronic artwork is ready, printing should not be a problem as it is fast and accurate. This speed is due to the direct printing. No time is wasted between pre-press stages. Most work is done with a quick turnaround.
